Handmade Raven Brooch is Sculptural Mosaic Wildlife Art

This striking raven brooch is an original piece of handmade mosaic art, created in my distinctive CreeksideMosaic style. The raven is sculpted in profile from individually shaped black mosaic pieces, giving the feathers, wings, tail, and body a layered, dimensional quality.

Although the raven is entirely black, the varied shapes, textures, and subtle changes in sheen keep the surface from looking flat. A single black crystal eye catches the light, while delicate oxidized copper feet add another unexpected detail to this unusual piece of wearable wildlife art.

Why I Created This Design

I've always been drawn to animals as subjects for my art, especially animals with strong personalities and distinctive shapes. The raven seemed like a perfect subject for my mosaic technique.
Rather than creating a flat image, I wanted to build the bird from individual pieces so that the feathers would overlap and flow across the body. The result is a small sculptural artwork with a surprisingly intricate surface.
Every piece is designed and handmade by me, Linda Webb, in my CreeksideMosaic studio. My animal designs are original creations developed in my own distinctive style.
